70 Palestinian Hunger Striking Detainees Hospitalized

IMEMC – Israel’s TV, Channel 10, has reported that approximately 70 hunger striking Palestinian detainees were moved to twelve Israeli hospitals and medical center, due to sharp deterioration in their health conditions.

Palestinian Detainees, held under arbitrary Administrative Detention orders without charges or trial, started their strike 40 days ago, and were later joined by around 1,500 detainees, demanding Israel to stop using Administrative Detention orders against them.

Undersecretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Detainees, Ziad Abu Ein, stated Sunday that more detainees are joining the open-ended hunger strike, and that the detainees are determined to continue their fight despite their bad conditions, and abuse.

He said that Israel is escalating its violations against the detainees, continuing to challenge International Law and the international community by the ongoing abuse and assaults against the detainees, and by continuing the use of illegitimate policies of Administrative Detention, holding prisoners without charges or trial.

“The detainees are ongoing with their battle of empty bowels, while Israel is escalating its violations and assaults against them,” Abu Ein stated. “We need to act on all levels to expose Israel’s illegitimate policies, to oblige it to end the use of Administrative Detention.”

He added that the Palestinian leadership, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, is acting on the international level, contacting various countries, legal and human rights groups, to pressure Israel into stopping its policies, and to provide the detainees with their internationally guaranteed rights.

“With their will and determination, the detainees are defeating the occupation, exposing its policies and crimes,” the official stated. “We need more support to the detainees and their cause, we need more international activities; our people are united, our international relations are much bigger and wider that Israel’s illegitimate occupation; we need to end those crimes.”
