Apr 22 2014 / 12:39 am

IMEMC – The Israeli Authorities prevented Palestinian Legislator and the secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, from entering the besieged and impoverished Gaza Strip, as he was planning to head to Gaza along with other members of the National Reconciliation Committee.

Barghouthi said that the Israeli authorities informed him his request “has not been looked into yet, therefore he cannot cross into Gaza.”

He added that four other committee members have been granted entry permits to the coastal region.

“It seems Israel granted them entry permits, and decided to exclude me,” Dr. Barghouthi said. “The delegation is determined to enter Gaza, should Israel insist on its position, we will all be heading to Egypt so that we can enter Gaza through the Rafah Border Terminal”.

Jamil Shihada, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), confirmed that Israel has decided to prevent Barghouthi from entering Gaza, the Radio Bethlehem 2000 said.
